Castle in Litomyšl, the national cultural monument and UNESCO monument, is one of the main dominant features of the city and one of most significant Renaissance monuments in Czech Republic. The history of castle bank and future castle is inseparably linked with the city history during the whole period of its existence. Nowadays the castle is one of the turistic magnet which attracts every year thousands of tourists to Litomyšl.
Another subjects in a castle area:
• City picture gallery administrated by Museum and gallery in second floor of the castle
• Congress centre in ground floor and in second floor of the castle convenient for taking place of wide range of social and cultural activities (with the castle brewery) - running by Smetanova Litomyšl o. p. s.
• Caste restaurant placed on the third courtyard.
During the presentation of certificate about listing the castle area as UNESCO monument a commemorative plaque with the following text was uncovered the 16th July 2000:
"In 1999 the castle area in Litomyšl was inscribed in the World Cultural Heritage list UNESCO. Its world important value was confirmed by this inscription. According to the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, the castle area is protected by the world nations in their common interest. Castle in Litomyšli is in its exceptional integrity a perfect example of castle with arcades, a type of building coming from Italy and adapted with Czech lands so that very developed form with perfect architectonic value was created. It is an ideal example of Central Europe aristocratic residence during Renaissance and its further evolution under the influence of new art movement."
